Concert at the new Parish Hall, Handcross

The Parish Hall in Handcross was built in 1914 and the first play to be performed there was Britannia’s Tea Party to raise funds for the hall. It was performed by the Girls Club, which had been formed in 1911.
With its centenary just a few months away, it seems that the Parish Hall may celebrate this milestone by being pulled down for more houses! Let us hope not.
The Large Version shows a close up of the girls wondering how they got talked into dressing up!

I have now located another copy of this photograph which names the girls as follows.
Back row: (L to R) Beattie Tulley, Miss Leppard, Ruby Hygate, Miss Burt, Alice Rice.
Middle row: Peggy Heath, Sabina Boniface, Dorcas Sayers.
Front row: Helen Chettle, Louie Tayman, Maud Rice, Lily Fowler, Queenie Anscombe.
Other notes with the photograph say that the photograph was taken at Lynwood in the High Street, Handcross. The location does not appear to be the front of the house and I can only presume that it was taken at the rear. The front of Lynwood can be seen at picture #2379, soon to be uploaded. The postcard was dated and posted on 23rd August 1905.
The only likely candidate for "Miss Leppard" is Olive Leppard who would have been then aged 14 and living with her widowed mother and older sister in the family-run confectionary shop in the High Street, Handcross.
