Flower Show in Red Lion Field, Handcross (2 of 13)

The Flower Show, with sports and a funfair, held in the Red Lion field had some unusual events and competitions, but the most bizarre for us in the 21st century was The Greasy Pig. There are no further details given but I am assuming that the young men of the area took turns to catch the slippery pig amid, no doubt, much hilarity amongst the spectators. I rather suspect that the event would not be approved of today.
The Large Version shows a close up.
The local newspapers gave enormous coverage of the event in those far-off days and it was so in 1928. Select Open Document to view the article. There appears to be a couple of sections missing, but that still leaves plenty to read!
