Days after the Vanguard accident the funerals took place to which vast numbers turned up, either taking part in the procession or watching from the pavement.

Councillors attending were Major John James Lister of Warninglid Grange, William Warden Walder, wheelwright of Warninglid, Victor Henry Kensett, shopkeeper of Slaugham, William Staplehurst, newsagent of Handcross, George King, publican of the White Horse, Slaugham, and Alfred Harding, gamekeeper of Warninglid.
