Vanguard omnibus accident (1 of 10)

The photograph was taken at the scene of the horrific omnibus accident on Handcross Hill in the early hours of 12th July 1906.
Here follows a series of ten pictures and documents relating to the tragedy.
Several images have already been uploaded and can be found by selecting “Groups” above and then “Vanguard”.
Beyond the bus and the haunted faces of the onlookers can be seen a traction engine used, no doubt, to tow the vehicle up the hill to the Red Lion yard (see picture #858).
A sign on the back of the bus advises passengers, somewhat inappropriately, to “Wait until the omnibus stops”.
The Large Version shows a close up.
