Truckers Hatch Cottages, Handcross

I have had to rewrite the text for this photograph and also transfer it from Staplefield to Handcross. I incorrectly identified the house as being one of Gable Cottages in Staplefield, but Sam Butler (née Gordon) has since correctly identified it as 2, Truckers Hatch Cottages, Handcross, opposite the entrance to Ashfold Farm in the Horsham Road.
I am grateful to Sam for her work on this photograph, and to David Pearce who made an onsite visit to verify the layout of the windows in the gable end.
I am now awaiting information which may lead to the identification of the two ladies. More on this will be posted later.
The Large Version shows a close up of the two ladies.

Barry, I have looked on Google Street View at Truckers Hatch Cottages, opposite the entrance to Ashfold Farm in the Horsham Road in Handcross, and these seem very similar except for a lack of decorative brick work on the chimney, which of course could have been changed at some time. It ties in with The Hyde connection too.
I was not able to upload a photo for you to compare. I love a good mystery!

Sam, very well spotted! I think you have identified it correctly as 2, Truckers Hatch Cottages. The Denman family have lived there for at least 50 years, and I am currently awaiting news from nonagenarian Molly Denman who still lives there and may remember the previous occupiers.
In the meantime I have found two photographs of the cottages which can be viewed by selecting Open Document.

I remember when Mrs Denman was the "dinner lady" at Handcross School along with Mrs Biggs and Mrs Bus.
I have very fond memories of her and her "magic cream" which seemed to heal instantly all manner of cuts and grazes!

Molly Denman was my 'Aunt' who lived there with her husband Alf. Molly was also a nurse at Chailey Heritage.
I believe their son, Clifford, still resides at the home and could possibly provide additional information as to the previous occupants. Although Clifford, to the best fo my knowledge, would have been resident for at least approaching fifty years.
